Soothing Green & Reds – Hand Block Printed Skirt Set

Hand block printing is an ancient art form of design in India which has been practised for centuries. It is an art form in which the artisan uses a hand-carved teak wood block to create handprinted designs using traditional Indian motifs on natural fabrics. The motifs are first traced on the wooden block by a master craftsman who then patiently chips away at it to carve a design and stamp. The wood block is then dipped in dye and then stamped by hand on to cotton or silk fabrics to create designs of great complexity and beauty. This skirt in a unique mehndi green has been blocked printed in paisleys and intricate florals by artisans of Madhya Pradesh and has been designed and created especially for Ranakah by the designer. The panels of the skirt alternate in large paisleys and small florals to create a symphony of design unique to Ranakah. The cut is flowing and tapered and the yoke at the waist gives a close and comfortable fit to the body. The skirt hem is trimmed with a dash of deep red which offsets the print.  The yoke around the waist is in free size, streamlines the fit and has a  drawstring which is edged with colourful tassels handmade from wool. From the cut to the styling and the decorative touches all are specially created for Ranakah and are unique to the label.  There is no other piece in this print and colour in Ranakah collection at the moment.
